The purpose of this study is to complete the research on the Marian emblems of the Immaculate Retábulum of the Monasteiro de la Encarnación in Escalona (Toledo), begun in 2012. Research that has resulted in the publication of four previous works.
The fifth installment is the present study, which reveals aspects of the Porta Celi emblem, regarding its iconography (description and location on the altarpiece) and its iconology (existing theological and symbolic interpretations), in addition to its sources. The purpose of the analytical and comparative method is to obtain the theological information necessary for the correct interpretation of the emblem.
