Abstract:Two purposes guide this research. First, to answer the question: what reasons justify the enduring presence of Campomanes' image in an official portrait? Second, to evaluate, iconographically and pictorially, five canvases by different painters, all depicting Campomanes in his official attire as a representative of Justice. The research thus explores Campomanes' political and intellectual significance, and his international standing, as evidenced by his merits in receiving an official portrait. Furthermore, it examines his professional attire (wig, ruff, robe, and buckled shoes) along with its symbols, his decorations, the gestural symbolism, and the artistic contribution of each painter, distinguishing them from the others.
